THE DIRTY GRASS PLAYERS

w/ Sam Burchfield, Max Subar

About The Dirty Grass Players:

Hailing from Baltimore, Md The Dirty Grass Players have established themselves with one toe-tappin’ foot in traditional bluegrass and blazing musicianship that pushes boundaries. Comprised of Josh Ballard on Bass, Alex Berman on Banjo, Ben Kolakowski with the guitar, and Ryan Rogers on mandolin, this four piece is successfully bringing their growing fan base a down, dirty and heated performance. Their ability to seamlessly transition from downhome bluegrass to spirited improvisation makes each performance unique. Throw in some Allman Brothers, Pink Floyd or a dash of southern rock and you’ll quickly understand what they mean by Dirty Grass. Their self-titled debut CD The Dirty Grass Players captures this energy and as 2017 winner of Charm City Bluegrass & Folk Festival Band Competition clearly indicates, this is just the beginning. Successfully touring the Mid-Atlantic and festival appearances, this year finds the group expanding along the East Coast and building on this momentum. For anyone that enjoys a musical throwdown by skilled musicians its time to get your grass dirty.

About Sam Burchfield:

Sam Burchfield is a southern folk / soul artist out of Atlanta, GA. Lyrical depth paired with a soulful vocal delivery and catchy melodies drives home the message. Burchfield transports listeners into a wide array of musical truths, commanding the stage with a joyful honesty. His latest EP, Unarmored, digs a few layers deeper into a genre-crossing career that has only just begun. From folk, to funk, to southern soul — Sam and his band of 'Scoundrels' capture it all. The rowdy crew puts on a show that is electrifyingly entertaining and yet full of Burchfield's lyrical honesty and depth.

“…Burchfield’s music is soulful. That is the perfect word for it. It doesn’t just describe his genre – it describes the heart of the artist himself…”

-Emily McBride - VINYL MAG

After cutting his teeth in the indie-music hub of Athens, GA, Sam planted new roots in the nation’s R&B capital of Atlanta. Sam and The Scoundrels have now made ripples in the southeast, and continue to grow a loyal fanbase with their passion for music and camaraderie for each other.

About Max Subar:

Alt-Folk singer/songwriter Max Subar aims to remain bound to his midwestern roots with songwriting that radiates honesty and closeness. His debut EP 'In a Dream', released in April 2017, was described by The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel as possessing a 'pastoral glow and a Nick Drake softness.'

After acquiring a cassette machine in the middle of 2018, Max began demoing and recording a new group of songs. By the end of the year, they would come together to become "What The Story Says", a 5 track EP out now. Recorded primarily in his sunroom in Chicago, What The Story Says is a collection of songs reflecting on the personal narratives we tell ourselves. Supported with instrumentation by bandmates and close friends, the recordings serve as a communal exploration of this idea, just as much as that of the individual.
